Group H2O Research Plan-Draft
Domain Research Competitive Analysis To further familiarize ourselves with the use of water bottles, the team will need to spend the next week conducting research on the types of water bottles on the market today. We will be looking at elements of the water bottle such as its form, use, size/capacity, and the types of lids that are used. The research will be done mostly online by gathering...

Diary Study
To further explore water consumption behaviors, we started a diary study to collect data related to individual daily beverage consumption. Results to be posted next week!

Meeting with Robert and Josh at Frog HQ
We presented a broader range of more specific wellness-tracking ideas:
This exploration led us to consider three options over the weekend:
proximity sensing of loved ones
daily water intake as a means of losing weight
tracking reading time as a means of relaxation
Before we left for the Interaction 10 conference, we agreed as a group to pursue the water tracking idea. It is...

Concept Map
The concept mapping process brought the ideas of the group together into an interesting quadrant of intersecting ideas. As we feared, our topics are too broad and our ideation could benefit from being more specific.

Considerations for a Balance Reminder
Can I re-allocate the hours of my day as I please?
Is there another language besides color to act as my reminder?
Will I remember to notice the beads?
After a week trying to be cognizant of balance, will I feel better or worse?
Focus on Interactivity
When thinking about balance and how to achieve it, I wonder how the prototype can be a more personalized experience. Dream functionality of the Balance Bracelet would be:
The ability to record the hours you spend on your daily tasks and routine, including sleep, work, other necessities, and personal time.
The ability to input this data, and then visualize it, perhaps over time?
Could...
Testing With a Partner
My partner Derek was a good sport and wore the Balance Bracelet for the day. I asked him to think about his own personal goals for life balance, how he arranges his priorities, and how he finds time to do things he enjoys (outside of work). For students, this is more difficult, but a better challenge!
He even wore it through this presentation!
Making the Prototype
Initially, I thought the prototype of this idea should be a wearable. So I represented the 24 hours of the day with a bead for each, on a bracelet.
The orange beads represent 8 hours of sleep. The green beads represent 8 hours of work. The purple beads represent 4 hours of daily necessities, and the four large beads represent personal time that I would like to try to incorporate each day for...
Sketches and Explorations
To begin my explorations, I thought about the personal activities, emotional states, and environmental conditions by evaluating my awareness of personal habits, things I do too much or too little.
I also thought about a few things I enjoy:
My sketches revolved around the monitoring of these things. Could I make something that could bite my tongue before saying something stupid? Could I make...
